Exploring Hygge Through Motion Design

Sometimes, life gets so busy that we forget to slow down and enjoy the little things. That’s why I created a motion design piece about hygge, the Danish concept of coziness and contentment. It really resonated with me as a way to find calm in the chaos, and this project gave me the perfect opportunity to reflect on it creatively.

To capture the cozy, calming essence of hygge, I followed a thoughtful creative process:

  1. Moodboard: I started with a moodboard to define the visual style. Inspired by hygge’s Scandinavian roots, I chose a clean, cozy, and minimalist Scandinavian illustration style; soft tones, simple shapes, and warm textures.

  2. Script & Storyboard: Next, I wrote a script to capture the essence of hygge: slowing down, savoring moments, and finding joy in simplicity. I translated the script into a storyboard, mapping out how the visuals would flow with the narrative.

  3. Illustration: With the storyboard as my guide, I illustrated all the elements; everything from steaming cups of tea to flickering candles and comfy blankets. Each detail was designed to evoke that hygge feeling.

  4. Animation : Finally, I brought the illustrations to life using Photoshop’s animation tools, adding smooth transitions and subtle movements to keep the vibe calming and inviting.

It was a relaxing and rewarding project that reminded me to embrace hygge in my own creative journey.
